Get It Straight – Blow Dry

In this lesson, you will learn how to blow dry kinky and unruly hair.

1

Begin this process with freshly shampooed and conditioned hair. To learn how to how to properly wash and condition kinky hair, go to our kinky Hair Video Lesson: Shampooing and Conditioning.

2

Part the hair into two sections. Working in sections makes the blow drying process much easier. Secure one section with a hair clip while leaving the other section of hair loose.

3

Separate the lose hair into a one-inch section while securing the remainder with another hair clip.

4

Apply blow drying lotion. This will help to get the hair smoother and prepare the hair for flat ironing (flat ironing is optional).

5

Detangle the loose hair using a large tooth comb. Start at the end of the hair and work your way up. This is the same process that we teach in our detangling video. To learn how to how to properly detangle wavy, curly, or kinky hair, go to our blog – Detangling

6

Use a comb attachment or cushion brush for blow drying. Most of our members prefer to use a comb attachment; they say it makes the process easier. Try both and see which works best for you. If you decide to use a brush, place the brush beneath the hair while you are blow drying.

7

Start at the end of the hair and work your way up. This is the same process that we teach in our detangling video. To learn how to how to properly detangle wavy, curly, or kinky hair, go to our blog post – Detangling 1on1. Start at the end of the hair and work your way up. Use long slow strokes and glide the blow dryer along the entire length of the hair.

8

Once the end of the hair is smooth, proceed upward towards the hair shaft. Use long slow strokes and glide the blow dryer along the entire length of the hair.

9

Continue with this process, bringing an inch of hair down (to blow dry) at a time. If your daughter’s hair is fine, you can use larger sections.

Note: If you plan to flat iron after blow drying, make sure the hair and scalp are completely dry!
